Early Intervention Certification

To ensure a well-trained, qualified workforce, all early intervention practitioners in Virginia must be granted initial certification before providing early intervention services to children and families. Practitioners must meet discipline-specific qualifications and complete the required Virginia Early Intervention Certification Modules prior to applying for initial certification. These modules are organized into a series of five Initial Certification courses.

The Early Intervention Initial Certification courses include:
  1. Overview: Mission and Key Principles of Early Intervention
  2. The Early Intervention Process
  3. Effective Practices for Implementing Early Intervention
  4. Responsibilities of Early Intervention Practitioners
  5. Child Development
  6. Authentic Assessment

If you are a service coordinator, you will need to complete the Initial Certification courses plus an additional module, The Many Facets of Service Coordination.

How to Apply for Virginia early intervention certification

Once you have completed these courses and modules, you must apply for EI certification using the EI Certification Database.
