Path #1: Introduction to Functional Assessment
This learning path provides an overview of functional assessment. Topics include a definition, key components, and other introductory information related to the importance of using functional assessment throughout the early intervention process. To get credit for this learning path, you must complete the three activities below, then take a quiz to test your knowledge. Once you have completed the learning path and scored at least 80% on the quiz, you will have access to a certificate of completion.

Activity 1
Complete the Authentic Assessment in Early Intervention online course. (VA EI eLearning Center)
This course addresses authentic assessment in early intervention. The lessons include: 1) What is Authentic Assessment, 2) Understanding Why, 3) Who, Where, When, and Within, and 4) Putting It All Together.
Instructions: Complete the introduction and all four lessons. A certificate of completion (for this online course only) will be provided after successfully passing the course’s final quiz.

Activity 2
Complete the Interactive Story
Follow a provider who uses the components of Virginia’s definition of functional assessment during three early intervention decision points including eligibility determination, program planning and progress monitoring.

Activity 3

Complete the Quiz
You must achieve a score of at least 80% on the quiz to receive a certificate of completion. This certificate will document 1 professional development (PD) hour. With this certificate, and the certificate you received for completing the Authentic Assessment module, you will have documentation of a total of 3 PD hours.
