Path #2: Early Intervention for Children Who Are Deafblind
This learning path, designed specifically for early interventionists, focuses on how deafblindness affects learning and development. Topics include strategies to support children and families with communication and concept development skills. Transition to preschool support is also discussed.

Lesson 1
Complete Foundations of Early Intervention
This lesson focuses on how deafblindness impacts a child’s learning, communication, and bonding with caregivers. Strategies include how to build a positive relationship with a family and support their confidence in caring for their child.

Lesson 2
Complete Connecting with Others
This lesson focuses on how children who are deafblind communicate and develop concepts. Specific strategies to help families support their child’s receptive and expressive communication, develop concepts, and facilitate connections with others are included.

Lesson 3
Complete Expanding the Child’s World
This lesson provides strategies to encourage families and caregivers to expand the world of an infant or toddler who is deafblind while creating learning and connection in environments that are outside the home.

Lesson 4
Complete Preparing for Transition to Preschool
This lesson focuses on preparing for transition from early intervention including the role of the early interventionist to support the child and family during this process.
